Used Kaman GTX 35 Semi-Hollow Modified Sunburst

Here’s a fun, under-the-radar semi-hollow electric: the Kaman GTX 35 in a classic sunburst. Kaman Music, the company behind Ovation and many other brands over the years, put the GTX name on a line of affordable, Korean-built guitars and basses in the late ’80s and early ’90s. They turned into sleeper hits and there are players out there who seek them out. We just got this one in, which has been upgraded in all the right places.
The body is constructed of laminated mahogany, with a spruce top, resulting in a resonant and sweet sounding guitar. You get a maple neck that has a thin and comfortable profile, topped with an smooth playing rosewood fretboard that has dot inlays. This semi-hollowbody guitar delivers rich, resonant tones, perfect for genres ranging from jazz to rock.
The big change is the pickups. This guitar now has USA Gibson humbuckers, which is the single biggest thing you can do to a budget guitar to get a better, fuller sound. It also has a bone nut, which helps with tuning stability and gives the open strings a clear, ringing tone, and CTS/Alpha pots, so the volume and tone controls sweep smoothly instead of being scratchy or jumpy.
It weighs 6.9 lbs, so it’s comfortable to wear for a long gig or a long practice session, and it’s in great condition. The techs in our shop have set it up to play perfectly. This is a great find!
