Used And Vintage

1966 was a landmark year in music history, marked by iconic albums like The Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds, The Beatles’ Revolver, Buffalo Springfield, and Love’s Da Capo. It also brought exceptional instruments, including this remarkable vintage 1966 Gibson ES-335, in Cherry Sunburst, a true classic!  Once you get done admiring the photos, read onwards for more about this guitar....

The Gibson ES-335 remains one of the most iconic semi-hollow body guitars ever crafted. Its dual humbuckers deliver rich, full tones balanced by the openness of the semi-hollow design. Constructed with a laminated, arched maple body featuring traditional "F"-holes, this model showcases a double-bound frame with a luscious Cherry Sunburst finish and a teardrop center. A set mahogany neck with a rosewood fingerboard and an ergonomic neck profile completes the instrument, enhanced by classic inlays for a truly refined look.  Also, we measured the nut width and found it to be 1.574".

Dating back to 1966, this model offers exceptional acoustic resonance, but its true brilliance emerges when amplified. Equipped with a pair of iconic humbuckers, the ES-335 delivers powerful, dynamic tones suited to any musical style, particularly when driven with high gain. Its rich, woody character has earned it a revered place among artists, studios, and countless legendary recordings.

The guitar features the classic tune-o-matic bridge known for its superior sustain, stability, and precise intonation.  This one has a trapeze tailpiece, something you don't see quite as often.  Some players prefer it, as it does change the feel and tension.  There are plenty of debates on this, and to that, we say "to each their own".

The finish is original, and still vibrant.  Everything else is original as well, including the tuners, other hardware, and pickups. The only thing missing part is the nut that goes on the pickguard.  The original case is included.  All of that equals this being quite the find.

This vintage ES-335 has quite the backstory.  It's only had two owners since 1966.  The most recent has had it since 1971.  He was originally an acoustic guitar player in a Spokane, WA college folk band when he was told that it was time to go electric.  His friend told him he knew a guy with a Gibson electric guitar that he wanted to sell.  He went to check it out, found that it was a killer ES-335 in pristine shape and bought it on the spot.  He's now owned it for 54 years!

This vintage Gibson ES-335 is in great condition, especially considering its age.  There are wear marks of course, but nothing major.  It's about to celebrate 60 years and still looks incredible. The excellent vintage Gibson ES-335 has been vetted by our vintage expert and setup to play perfectly.
