Truetone Color Set - Taos Turquoise Transparent

Introduced in 1960 as Fender’s new “deluxe” bass guitar model, the Jazz Bass® featured a sleek offset body, a notably slim neck, two pickups and controls that provided a wealth of tonal options. Gorgeous and versatile, it was an immediate bass hit. The Jazz Bass has continued to change over the years, but for many, stepping back to how it was done in the 60's is the way to go.  The Fender Custom Shop excels at recreating the look, feel and sound of these guitars, often with special tweaks.  That's where we decided to go with this one.

As part of a close partnership with the Fender Custom Shop, Truetone Music cooked up an exclusive run of guitars, known as "Truetone Color Sets".  It's where we do a quartet of instruments - Strat, Tele, Jazzmaster and Jazz bass - all in the same color, as a matching set.  For the colors, we picked unique ones that are rarely ever seen.  In this case, it's Taos Turquoise Transparent, one of the coolest and most vibrant colors that we've come across.  It's not even shown in the list of Custom Shop colors, but we've seen it done on a guitar before, and knew we had to choose it as a color set.

While the majority of Custom Shop instruments have some level of aging, from Closet Classic to Super Heavy Relic, we went in the opposite direction - we chose to do this guitar as an NOS (New Old Stock) piece.  The reason is simple: this one is just too beautiful to do anything besides NOS!  The wood grain looks great behind the transparent finish, and Taos Turquoise itself is an eye-catching color.  The silver anodized pickguard ties it all together, and the Abalone inlays are the perfect finishing touch.

This Custom Shop '60 Jazz Bass is a testament to their ability to pull off vintage recreations with modern playability.  It features a period correct 60 "U" neck shape, classic vintage-voiced pickups, and a mostly otherwise traditional design.  We went with a 9.5" radius and Narrow Tall (6105) frets - this is one of the most common and popular modifications to vintage-styled instruments out of the Custom Shop.   So, you get a modern feel on a vintage style bass.  For the pickups, we kept it real, going with the base model Custom Shop Vintage Jazz Bass pickup set.  These recreate the sound of a classic mid-60's Jazz bass and are versatile enough for a variety of styles of playing.

Back to the neck - this one is rather special.   It's AAA Birdseye Maple, which is absolutely stunning.  While this is somewhat common on guitars, it's rather rare on basses.  Why should guitarists get all of the good wood?  Bassists deserve it too!  Additionally, we chose to go with special abalone dots as a final touch to make this bass even more unique.

Other features include a High Mass bridge, which is a favorite of ours and helps to improve tone & sustain.  It's topped off with vintage tuning machines, bone nut and Silver Anodized pickguard, rarely seen on a bass. Also includes a Custom Shop black hardshell case, strap and certificate of authenticity.

This is an extra special Jazz bass, as part of a Truetone-exclusive color set in Taos Turquoise Transparent.  You haven't seen it before, because it's the first and only to ever exist!  Come to Club Fender at Truetone Music to check it out, or order right here to have it shipped to your home.
