Uniquely Familiar & Different

Truetone Music is proud to have a long and close relationship with Fender, especially with the Custom Shop.  Every so often, we make a pilgrimage there to sit down with Masterbuilders to cook up a batch of amazing guitars.  Sometimes we go for vintage-styled recreations, sometimes we go for modernized tweaks.  Sometimes it's a classic color, sometimes it's a totally new color or even reclaimed wood.  No matter what, they always knock it out of the park!

This very unique Subsonic Telecaster is a result of this partnership.  We met with Masterbuilder Dennis Galuszka, came up with the idea, and worked on the design together.  That was the genesis of this unbelievably awesome guitar.   We really didn't know what the outcome would be when originally spec'ing it out, but couldn't be happier with the result.  It's truly unique.

One of the first things you'll notice, of course, is that this is not a normal Telecaster.  It's a Baritone with 27" scale length.  For this one, we decided to add the extra twist of having two Curtis Novak Lipstick pickups.  Additionally, the bridge has a Custom Shop RSD Tele bridge, sawed off to accommodate the unique configuration.   A Baritone Tele provides an entirely different playing experience and opportunity to create new sounds, adding another tool to your arsenal.

At Galuszka's suggestion we went with Curtis Novak Lipstick pickups.  Jangly, chiming, clear, and detailed - these work great for a variety of styles, and on a Baritone Tele specifically, they provide the clarity without muddiness that you need.  This set of pickups offers a wide range of tonal possibilities. While excelling at producing clean sounds, you also have the capability to produce snarly breakup and a loose low end when paired with a cranked amp.  All of this combined makes it a versatile and enjoyable choice.

You'll also notice the color: Sherwood Green Metallic.  This color looks great, especially with the Journeyman Relic finish.  It has the looks of a guitar that was made decades ago, played extensively but not thrashed upon.  So, there's some wear, as well as aging in the form of finish fading and checking.  Galuszka did an amazing job with this, and as great as the photos look it's even better in person.

The guitar is surprisingly light, considering that it's a Baritone Tele - this one weighs in at just 7.5 lbs.  The select Alder body is very resonant.  The neck is amazing too, being made from a sturdy piece of roasted Maple It has all of the feel & comfort you would expect from a masterbuilt instrument, especially with the modified 60 Style "C" neck shape, which is perfect for a Baritone Tele like this.  Galuszka really does amazing work with the fine details on a neck, from the perfectly seated frets, rolled edges and overall playability.  Right off the bat, it's one of the best playing baritone guitars we've ever had here, and we've had a lot.  It has a 9.5" radius and Medium Jumbo (6150) frets.  This makes it extremely easy to play, even up high when bending notes.

The guitar is rounded out with vintage tuners, string tree, neck plate and other hardware.  It comes with a Custom Shop hardshell case, strap and Certificate of Authenticity.

A Masterbuilt instrument is like no other, and this is truly a one of a kind.  We specifically chose to work with Dennis on this guitar, as he's one of our favorite builders, especially for unique guitars.   Despite knowing how awesome everything he does is, we were still blown away when it arrived.  Only available now - come to Truetone Music to see it yourself, or order it right here right now.

About the builder:

Dennis Galuszka began building high-end acoustic guitars during his 13 years as a cabinetmaker, combining his passions for music and woodworking. As a self-taught drummer, it was a fateful audition with one of the Fender master builders that led to a job interview (and a steady gig). Hired as an apprentice, he was promoted to master builder in 1999. Galuszka has since built instruments for many influential players, including country legend Buck Owens and jazz master Robben Ford.
