A Most Classic of Teles

Ever since the Telecaster came out in the early 1950's, players everywhere have been drawn to the sound, feel and look of this legendary model.  Over the years, it evolved, but for many, it's all about the 50's era Tele.  And for some, the 1958 edition is "the one".  Why?  This Custom Shop '58 Tele right here might answer that.

The alder body is super lightweight and resonant.  This guitar is a great weight - just 6.8 lbs.  The lacquer finish with heavy checking on the Faded Shell Pink finish gives it a classic, old-school Fender vibe.  We chose the Journeyman Relic treatment package, to give it the look & feel of a vintage Tele that has been thoroughly used, but not abused.  To further that idea, and to give it the most "broken in feel" we could get, we asked for the back of the neck to be given the Heavy Relic treatment.  We started doing this on a lot of guitars and fell in love with the combination.

Speaking of the neck, we also went for something a little unique on this build - it's a Roasted Maple neck, which we feel matches the Shell Pink finish perfectly.  The 59 Esquire C shape is becoming more popular, as it's a similar carve to the 60's Oval C seen on so many Custom Shop guitars, but with a little more "beef" to it.  If you're a fan of vintage neck shapes, this is a great way to go. Throughout the years, most players have gravitated towards a 9.5" radius and 6105 (narrow tall) frets - so those are the two tweaks that we made on this guitar.  As an added benefit, we specifically called for this one to have rolled fretboard edges, adding to the broken in feel.  For those that know it's the small details like this that make a Custom Shop guitar so special.

Custom Shop Tele pickups give you full clarity, with enough bite to cut through the mix.  We chose them for this guitar because they are amongst our favorites, and feel that these are some of the Custom Shop's best and "truest" vintage sounding pickups.  The bridge position has a 56/57 Tele pickup with Alnico 5 magnets, and provides the twang.  The neck position has a handwound 55/56 Tele pickup with Alnico 3 magnets, with a warm and creamy tone.  This is a great combination and perfect for a Tele replicating the sound of that era.

Other features include a 1-ply white pickguard, mid-50's Tele style bridge with steel saddles, vintage tuners, and a wing string tree.  It comes with a Custom Shop tweed case, strap and certificate of authenticity.

We spec'ed this one out ourselves, and were super excited when it arrived - the Custom Shop absolutely knocked it out of the park.  We think it's one of the better Teles we've received from them, and we've had a lot.  You can see and hear why for yourself by coming to Club Fender @ Truetone Music, or by ordering right here to be shipped to your home.
