Used And Vintage Electric Guitars

The Gibson ES-125T is one of the lesser known models from the company, but it's become a sleeper hit over the years, especially recently.  At first glance, you wouldn't think it, but it's a very versatile guitar.  Players as varied as Bill Frisell, BB King (early 50's era), Tracy Chapman, George Thorogood and Thom Yorke have been known to sport one.  And don't forget the Vaughns - both Stevie Ray and Jimmie played an ES-125T.

Originally introdued in 1941 as the ES-125, it evolved into the ES-125T in the mid 1950's, as an entry level thinline archtop guitars.  Built in 1962, this ES-125TC is the version with a single P-90 pickup, single volume, single tone, tortoiseshell pickguard and beautifully crafted Florentine cutaway.  This exact model was only made for 10 years, starting in 1960.  It lived until the 1970's, so finding one is a rare occasion.  Finding one as nice as this one is even more rare.

The early 60's ES-125TC is one of the only Gibson guitars from that era to sport a Cherry Sunburst finish.  It's held up very well over time - it's faded, with a beautiful patina, and has the perfect amount of aging.  This one is all original, other than the tuners - those were replaced by vintage reissue button tuners, with the work done right here at Truetone Music.  No new screw holes were created.  The original tuners are included in the case.  Speaking of that, it's not the original case - it was replaced by a modern Gibson case (which protects it better).

The neck is super comfortable to play - it has 20 frets, with the neck meeting the body at the 14th fret.  The Brazilian Rosewood fretboard is in great shape with pearl dot position markers up to the 15th fret only.  The thinline body (depth: 1 3/4") is double bound, and features a Floretine cutaway, providing easy access up the neck.  The sound holes and the neck are not bound.

The guitar has been setup to play perfectly by the echs in our shop.  It's an amazing player, and of course sounds amazing too.  This is one of the coolest vintage Gibson guitars we've had here in recent years - this is a special piece for sure.  You won't run across many of these, so if this is up your alley, make it yours before it's gone!
