A Primo SG with a Story

1969 was a pivotal year in American history.  Some have called it "the year that everything changed".  From the astronauts on the moon to the Beatles on the rooftop, and from Vietnam to Woodstook, it's an understatement to say that a lot was going on.  Popular music was changing and the guitar industry was growing.  All of this can be tied together in the history of this guitar.  In the world of vintage guitars, it's often the story that is part of the appeal.  Of course, collectors and players know that the originality, playability, sound and feel are the key factors, but when there is a story behind a guitar, it makes it much more intriguing.  This is one of those scenarios.

This Gibson SG Standard was made and sold in 1969.  The original owner only had it for a month or two, until unfortunate news came: the Selective Service System had called his number and he was drafted for military service, for the purpose of going to Vietnam.  For anyone at this time, it was a life-changing moment.  As a result, he put a short classified ad in the local newspaper, offering his guitar up for sale.  A younger teenager, just 16, happened to be looking to get an SG, and hadn't been able to secure a new one at an affordable price from the local guitar shop.  The classified ad caught his attention, and he was able to convince his dad to drive him to see the guitar.

When he arrived, he found the newly conscripted recruit on his back porch, lamenting having to sell the guitar.  A deal was struck, and the young teenager was now the proud owner of the SG bearing serial # 560009.  It has stayed with him since that day in 1969.  Over the decades to follow, the guitar moved around with him, being played some, but spending most of its life in the case.  It has not been on the market or out of his possession since - until now.

We are excited to present this all original, all stock Gibson SG Standard.  It's in excellent condition, especially considering its age.  There are minor nicks & dings, as to be expected, but nothing major.  The photos tell the whole story.  You'll see that the finish has stayed vibrant over the years, and looks amazing.  Nothing has been modified, there are no crack repairs at the headstock or the input jack (common for these guitars), anywhere for that matter.  The guitar has the original pickups and all original parts.  It does not have the original case (that fell apart years ago), but it comes with a very nice Gibson hardshell case.

Our vintage expert vetted the guitar, and it has been setup to play perfectly.  The one-piece mahogany neck and rosewood fretboard is smooth, and there is plenty of life in the frets.  The mahogany body is light and has the classic look of Cherry with a multi-ply black pickguard.  This is an amazing example of a vintage SG.  It's a pleasure to play, and the covered humbuckers (patent sticker) sound amazing.

We've seen a lot of vintage guitars come through, with some very interesting stories.  This one ranks right up there.  There have only been 2 owners of this guitar for the past 50+ years.  Now is the chance to become the 3rd owner.  It's an amazing opportunity for any collector or player that can appreciate a super clean, all original, vintage SG like this one.  Come to Truetone Music to see it for yourself, or order right here to be expertly packed and carefully shipped to your home today.
