Used And Vintage Basses

1975 - it's the year that the Vietnam War ended, Betamax and VHS tapes were introduced, and Jaws was released.  It's also the year of Mood rings, Rubik's Cubes and Pet Rocks.  Disco ruled but the world also got albums like Physical Graffiti, Wish You Were and Katy Lied.  Actually, that list goes on and on....

1975 is also the year that this amazing Stratocaster came to life.  While some players scoff at 70's era Fenders in general, it can be more due to late 70's models.  The mid-70's guitars have their own thing going on, and those that really know are aware that there are winners out there.  This is one of them, especially at this price.

The original finish (Natural) looks great on the ash body - it has all of the vibe of the 70's, complete with the original black pickguard.  Surprisingly, this one is light, weighing in at just 7.5 lbs.  The maple neck is really comfortable and while the frets are small (it has not had a refret), there is plenty of life in them.  We've seen a lot of 70's Strats here, and this is definitely one of the better ones.

When we took this guitar in, our techs gave it a full vetting and refresh.  To fully disclose everything, here's everything you need to know:
  • Bridge  -  the original bridge had to be replaced because the trem arm snapped off in the block.  We put a period correct bridge on it, and also put the original saddles on.  The original bridge is included in the case.
  • Pots  -  the original pots (included in the case) were replaced by CTS pots.
  • Pickups  -  the middle pickup is original, but the bridge & neck pickups were replaced.  No markings indicate what they are, but they do appear to be genuine Fender pickups.
  • Pickguard Screws  -  there are two missing.  Of course, we could have put two new ones on there, but they would be shiny and not match the rest, so we left it without those screws.
  • Backplate  -  the guitar does not have the original backplate; we chose not to add a new one (but can if you'd like, at no charge)
  • Case  -  the original case went missing long ago and was replaced; it came to us in a black tolex hardshell case.
This Strat is good condition, especially considering it's not far from turning 50.  It's definitely been played, but that just adds to the mood of the guitar.  For anyone looking for a player's grade vintage Strat that won't break the bank, this is a great call - as long as you're into the vibe of the 70's!  We don't see it last long around here.
