Used And Vintage Electric Guitars

Back in the decade known as the 1980's, Fender produced a line of guitars in Japan, recreating iconic models from the years past.  These reissues are know as the E-Series, and have been high in demand ever since, especially in recent years.

This ‘72 Reissue Stratocaster, built in 1985 is a rare find.  The Japanese made 50's and 60's Strats are much more common - we've had a lot here over the years - but we've never had this exact model.  We were pretty excited when it came in.

1985 was the year when Fender CBS was sold to a small group of investors and stopped production of guitars in the Fullerton, USA plant. For a brief period Fender relied entirely on guitars manufactured in Japan until it could get its new plant open in Corona, CA. This is one of those rare guitars from that period. These mid 1980's MIJ guitars are considered by many to be as good, or better, in quality than the USA models.  The Fuji-gen factory has been known for producting amazing guitars, and this one is a great example.

This one is thought to be the ST72-70 model, as that's the only one that was done with a rosewood fretboard option.  It has the classic large headstock, CBS era logo, dual butterfly string trees, bullet truss rod and 3-bolt neck.  Some of those things were seen as not so desirable specs from the 70's, but the skilled luthiers in Japan made it "right".  The guitar has a vintage feel with 21 vintage frets and a 7.25" radius, as well as the period accurate tone, thanks to the USA made single coil pickups.  Speaking of the pickups, it appears that the guitar original had black pickup covers and knobs, which were replaced on this guitar in favor of cream (originals included in case).

The guitar is in excellent condition, considering it's age (at this point, closing in on its 40th birthday!).  There's some normal finish wear but nothing major.  A nice hardshell case is included.  The guitar has been setup to play perfectly by the techs in our shop.  For anyone that knows, this is a nice find!!
